New Weather Report Live Compilation CD/DVD Collection Featuring Chester Thompson Released

A new live Weather Report compilation, The German Concerts (also know as "Best Live Selection: The German Concerts"), was released in Japan on CD (catalog # VIZJ12) and DVD (catalog # JIBJ27) recently. Both the 3 CD and 3 DVD sets are derived from three German shows: Berlin 1975, Offenbach 1978, and Cologne 1983. The DVD features true 2-channel stereo, but no surround sound mix. Chester Thompson plays drums on four tracks taken from the Berlin 1975 performance (approximately 41 minutes in length), recorded shortly before he left the jazz super group. The songs featuring Chester are: "Freezing Fire", "Scarlet Woman", "Mysterious Traveler" and "Badia"/"Boogie Woogie Waltz." Other members of Weather Report featured on the 1975 recording are Alphonso Johnson on bass, Alex Acuña on percussion, and of course Joe Zawinul on keyboards, and Wayne Shorter on saxophone. In Europe, these performances were released individually, with the Live in Berlin 1975 set released as a CD+DVD (Region 0) set and as a limited edition vinyl LP edition. To date, there is no North American release.

Mike and the Mechanics Announce Tour Dates for 2012!

A select set of tour dates for July 2012 have been announced for Mike and the Mechanics in Europe. As of now, only four dates have been reported in Germany, but hopefully additional dates will follow. Sadly, their latest album, The Road, still has not seen a North American or Asian release, so even if additional dates are announced, it seems highly unlikely they will be scheduled outside of Europe at this time.

German Genesis Fan Club Releases An Exclusive 20th Anniversary CD Single!

It, the German Genesis Fan Club (found on-line at is releasing an exclusive Anon CD single for their 20th anniversary. The song "Pennsylvania Flickhouse" was recorded by the Anon featuring Anthony Phillips, Rob Tyrell (drums), Richard McPhail (lead vocals) and Mike Rutherford in 1966. The Anon was one of two school bands at Charterhouse public school in Surrey, England that ultimately became Genesis. There was no master tape for this rare song, but the original acetate single owned by Richard Macphail was used as the source and digitalized for this CD. The song has been digitally enhanced with the latest technology to remove all of the clicks and crackles, static and other noises from the original source material. As an alternative to the original mono version there is also a 'fake stereo' version on the single as well. This is a limited edition CD single and it will not be available for long! For more information on how to order this never-released material, visit the It German fan site.
