Phil Collins Discusses Personal Issues, The Possibility of a Genesis Reunion, and Adele Project In New Articles

With Genesis' R-Kive officially out in North America today and Europe yesterday (and the forthcoming releases of the Genesis: Sum of the Parts documentary and a newly remastered Three Sides Live on Blu-ray Disc and DVD), the band has been doing its share of press in recent weeks to help promote it, especially Mike Rutherford and Phil Collins. In the UK, the tabloids The Irish Mirror, The Mirror, Express, and the Daily Mail, have just run variations of a similar feature story on Phil Collins and his life since initially announcing his retirement from music. As you can imagine, tabloids are known for "sensationalized journalism." So, you can read about the personal aspects of the stories if you wish (I tend to focus just on their careers and not on the personal things on this site if it has no impact on the music). There are a couple of big take-aways though, including that the Adele collaboration was discussed but never actually happened and Collins' comments that a Genesis reunion at some point isn't impossible.

Phil Collins' Long Time Drum Tech Posts Collins' 2014 Miami Rehearsal Set List (Possible Spoilers!)

It was just five days ago when Phil Collins' official statement came out that he had no immediate plans to tour in 2015 beyond the four or five song semi-acoustic set for the Little Dreams charity event in Miami, Florida this December (get your tickets for the Little Dreams concert here). Today, Brad Marsh, Phil's long-time drum tech, posted the complete set list that Phil and his band had been rehearsing in Miami, Florida on September 4th (one of the last rehearsal dates) on Facebook. Soon after being posted, Marsh quickly took the post down (So, someone clearly did not approve its release to the public). The whopping 30-song set list (including a three song encore) spans Collins' career and even includes one Genesis song. Call me crazy, but if there were no plans beyond a four or five song set at the charity concert in December, wouldn't a set list of 30 career spanning songs be a tad excessive? Please note that set lists do change and its not impossible that some songs are dropped or changed should a tour actually be announced at a later date.

Rather than post this set list here in the news section and possibly risk upsetting someone with major spoilers should a small tour (or a "selection of shows") happen, you can see the full set list here if you wish to see it. If not, and you'd rather be surprised should a tour be announced, do not click the link.

As previously reported, Carrack also recently released a remastered single CD collection spanning his entire career (including a brand new version of "The Living Years"), which you can purchase here.

Armando Gallo's I Know What I Like Genesis App Now Available for iPad

Acclaimed photographer Armando Gallo has just released an app version of his popular Genesis photobook, Genesis - I Know What I Like, for iPad and other tablet computers (not for smart phones, sorry). Gallo followed Genesis as a photographer from 1970 through 1978, and many (if not most) of the classic Genesis live shots and band photos from this era were taken with his camera lenses! The app, officially released late yesterday, was produced by Arga Images, Inc. and is available on iTunes and other places you can purchase apps. The app itself is FREE, but there are optional in app purchases (full app content costs $19.99).

The initial 677 MB app includes:

- The Ultimate Edition of his I Know What I Like Book (200 pages with more than 500 photos! Please note that to unlock the full book, there is an in app purchase required.)

- Armando Gallo's Interactive Lightbox - drag and zoom in on classic pictures from the Gallo collection (Again, to access the full Lightbox, an in-app purchase is required).

- Original music, including exclusive tracks by Steve Hackett, Anthony Phillips, Daryl Stuermer, and more.

- Allegedly, never-before-heard early Genesis music and exclusive photos.

- Video with Paul Whitehead explaining his creative process and collaboration with the band (He's the artist who did the artwork for Trespass, Nursery Cryme and Foxtrot).

- Exclusive animations and sequences.

- Black and white photos from the original book are now in full color and you can zoom in, rotate images, and more.

- Genesis Photobooth - use your iPad's camera to pose with members of the classic Genesis line-up and share them with people via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail.

-  Genesis wallpapers featuring Armando's iconic Seconds Out photos.

- Interactive Video Help and more!

Genesis' R-Kive & Early Back Catalog Being Reissued In Japan on Mini LP Sleeve SHM and Platinum SHM-CDs

The Japanese issue of Genesis' new R-Kive 3-CD collection will be released on November 26, 2014. It will initially be released as a limited paper sleeve (mini LP sleeve) SHM-CD and Platinum SHM-CD. The Japanese release of R-Kive (which has an identical track listing to the North American and European issues scheduled for release this month) will also usher in the reissue of the "Peter Gabriel era" Genesis catalog in Japan with the following limited paper sleeve SHM and Platinum SHM-CDs slated for release on the same day:

SHM-CD:
R-Kive (catalog # UICY-76712/4), Trespass (catalog #
UICY-76715), Nursery Cryme (catalog # UICY-76716), Foxtrot (catalog # UICY-76717), Selling England By The Pound (catalog # UICY-76718), and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (catalog #UICY-76719/20),

Platinum SHM-CD:
R-Kive (catalog # UICY-40091/3), Trespass (catalog #
UICY-40094), Nursery Cryme (catalog # UICY-40095), Foxtrot (catalog # UICY-40096), Selling England By The Pound (catalog # UICY-40097), and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (catalog # UICY-40098/9).

For those who don't know what the heck this means, SHM-CDs (or "Super High Material CDs") were jointly developed by Universal Music and JVC in Japan. SHM-CDs offer a polycarbonate resin system that offers a higher level of transparency resulting in double refraction quality when compared to standard CDs. Platinum SHM-CD is "the ultimate compact disc" (according to Universal Music Japan) utilizing platinum in place of the aluminum to form the reflective coating in addition to the SHM-CD technology used exclusively in Japan. SHM-CD and Platinum SHM-CD is fully compatible with most standard CD players. In other words, they are considered audiophile quality by the Japanese market.
