Genesis Webmaster Shares Results of Today's Meeting On Archive
According to a posting on the
Section of the official Genesis site today, yesterday's meeting with
Tony Smith about future Genesis archive releases looks promising. Here
is what the webmaster has revealed:
"1. I am to get quotes for CD issues of Acting Very Strange
and Wicked Lady for speedy re-issue;
2. We plan to extend the range of merchandise (i.e. both in terms of
products and albums/tours covered);
3. I am putting together a budget for an Archive Club to be based,
hopefully, on a schedule of 4 Live and one rehearsal/outtakes/demos CD
and one DVD a year.
4. We will use the results of the current survey to decide which
tours/albums to choose for the initial releases. We will then
search the archives at the Farm and elsewhere for relevant material.
This will then be listened to in order to find the best
5. If everything pans out the Club may be up and running by the
summer with the re-issues c. Easter."
Genesis Webmaster To Meet With Tony Smith Regarding Archive CDs
According to the official webmaster for the Genesis site, he will be
meeting with Tony Smith, the band's manager, tomorrow to discuss the
possibility of new archive releases. Hopefully, the results of this
meeting will be known soon.
Official Genesis Site Polls Fans For Potential Archive CDs
A poll has been added to the official Genesis site to query fans about
potential live and studio archive releases and what types of recordings
fans want. If you haven't already,
cast your vote! It sounds like the official releases of more rare
recordings may actually become a reality!

The official Peter Gabriel site was updated today and reconfirmed that

Phil Collins Officially Joins Sir McCartney, Elton, and Jagger For
As reported here back on August 9th, The Sunday Telegraph,
Times of India and The
Evening Standard have confirmed that Phil Collins has officially
agreed to participate in the Queen of England's Golden Jubilee events
this summer. The concert, which will take place on June 3rd at
Buckingham Palace, will accommodate approximately 12,000 fans who will
be selected by a series of ballots and competitions. The performers in
the concert's "super group" are a literal who's who of rock
including: Mr. Collins, Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Elton
John, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Bryan Adams, and others. The event
is said to be the idea of former Beatles Producer George Martin. The
BBC, who have exclusive rights to the event, will be broadcasting the
concert to over 100 million fans worldwide.
Hackett Sheet Music Now Available For Download!
19 of Steve Hackett's songs have been transcribed by Theo Cheng and are
now available for download from the official
Steve Hackett site. The sheet music comes in three formats: straight
transcription (unmarked), transcription with finger positions (marked),
and simplified guitar tablature (tab). The sheet music is in PDF format,
so you will need Adobe Acrobat to read these files.
The sheet music is £2.50 each (approximately $4.00 U.S.) or you can get
the entire lot of 19 pieces for £25.00 (approximately $40.00 U.S.). If
you purchase the entire set of 19 songs, you have the option of getting
the files on a CD or downloading them. If you purchase the sheet music
individually, downloading is your only option. Among the songs
transcribed are Hackett classics like "Black Light", "Calmaria",
"Momentum", and the Hackett signature tune (and Genesis
classic) "Horizons." Hopefully, more titles will follow. Stay

Genesis Webmaster Says Collins' Album Due In November; Possible New
Official Site In The Works
Despite a report by Reuters claiming an end of summer release, a posting
made by the official Genesis webmaster says Phil's next solo effort will
be released around November with a first single to be possibly released
in September (which seems like a long time in advance to release a
single to me!). In any case, there is apparently also discussion to
establish Phil's own official presence on the world wide web. We will
keep you posted on what happens...

More Info On The Gabriel Plays Live Controversy/Rumors
According to Real World, Peter Gabriel's own label, they had this to say
about the Plays Live remaster: "It is more then likely to be
the double album rather then the highlights. This will be confirmed very
shortly and all should become clear."
So, you want more news on this issue? OK! The information below was
provided by Virgin Records (Gabriel's European distributor) courtesy of
Time Lapse Records:
"Feb 25th- tentative release date for Shaking the Tree,
remastered version in standard jewel case (this will obviously be
released as a 'taster' for the other titles). This one will have the
following catalog number: Virgin Records PGTVDR 6."
"May 6th - the following titles are coming out (I'm guessing that
these will also be in standard jewel cases and the Japanese miniature
sleeve versions will either be issued before or after these are
PETER GABRIEL 1 (Virgin PGSDX 1)
PETER GABRIEL 2 (Virgin PGSDX 2)
PETER GABRIEL 3 (Virgin PGSDX 3)
PETER GABRIEL 4 (Virgin PGSDX 4)
PLAYS LIVE (2CD) (Virgin CDPGDX 100)
BIRDY (Virgin CASCDX 1167)
PASSION (Virgin RWCDX 1)
SO (Virgin PGSDX 5)
SHAKING THE TREE (Virgin PGTVDX 6)
US (Virgin PGSDX 7)
Time Lapse added, "Now, as far as I can tell, the reason for the
different catalogue number used on Shaking the Tree, is because
the initial release will be a budget priced CD whereas the later release
will be slightly higher (no idea why!)"
As always, release dates (especially in the world of Peter
Gabriel) are subject to change.
Rumors That The Newly Remastered Gabriel Plays Live Is Only A
Highlights CD Are False
According to a source at Universal Music Group (the distributor of Peter
Gabriel's albums in the USA), rumors announced by a fan on the official
Genesis website that the up-coming remastered version of Plays Live
will be a highlights version (and not the complete album) are apparently
false. Further, a second confirmation that the new version of Plays
Live will not be abridged was also verified earlier today for
the UK release by Time Lapse Records, a commercial music store based in

Plans For Genesis Live Archive CDs Disclosed By Official Webmaster
On the discussion forum section (a.k.a. Genesis Talk) of the official
Genesis site, the webmaster revealed that he has proposed releasing live
archive recordings progressively on a club basis (similar to what King
Crimson has done for their fans) to Tony Smith, the band's long-time
manager. The webmaster shared that there could be an estimated six
releases per year which would be pressed in limited quantities (or for
whatever the demand required). At this time, he suspects that these
releases will not be available "going out for general use." In
other words, when these titles do go on sale on the official site, you
might not want to wait too long to grab a copy or you just might miss

Reuters Report Says Collins' New "Experimental" CD To Be
Released By The End of The Summer
Reuters, an international news agency, just reported a story on the Phil
Collins unplugged charity event this month (which was posted here on
World of Genesis back in October!). In their news article, a new quote
by Collins reveals that Phil plans to have his new solo album out by the
end of the summer.
Collins describes the up-coming album as being "far
more experimental" as it marks
the first time he used a computer for composing and mixing.
Rumors Spread That Gabriel's Remasters Might Not Be Completely
A fan post to the Genesis website claims to have official knowledge that
the up-coming remastered version of Peter Gabriel's Plays Live
will be slimed down to a highlights version rather than the complete
double disc set. Further, there are claims of the release date changing,
with all titles scheduled for an April release (instead of staggered
starting in February and finishing in April). I have contacted
Peter Gabriel's "people", Virgin Records, and Universal Music
Group (distributor of his label in the USA) for confirmation or denial of these
rumors. Once these comments have been addressed, I will let you
Special thanks to Phil Morris for contacting me about this. I should get
an official response shortly.
Gabriel Gives Fans Their First Glimpse of His Remastered Back
Today, the official Peter Gabriel
site offers us the first glimpses of his newly remastered back
catalog. In addition to all of the titles previously mentioned, it
appears that the Birdy soundtrack has also been digitally
remastered. So, now every Gabriel album from his debut through Us
(with no exceptions) will be released between February and April 2002.
Interestingly, despite what the Virgin Eden website previously claimed,
the Gabriel remastered CDs pictured are in standard jewel cases rather
than LP style sleeves.

Official Genesis Site Asks Fans To Identify Bootleg Titles For
Possible Official Live Archive Releases
The Webmaster of the official Genesis site has asked that Genesis fans
review the list below of recordings currently in the band's possession.
They would like to know which titles exist on bootleg and what the sound
quality is like. This is the first indication of what we might see
released in the band's official live archive CD series (which is
something they have talked about since the inception of the latest
official site in late July 2001).
The list is a partial sample of tapes in Phil Collins' personal
collection. Some titles were omitted from the list due to the fact that
bootlegs of those shows are known to exist, and the webmaster is
interested in material not already 'out there' as a basis for
suggestions to Hit & Run (the band's management). As a matter of
interest, there were 38 pages of video tapes (as well as a load of PC
live audio). So, perhaps, if these archive CDs sell well, we can look
forward to many more titles in the future!
The audio tapes include:
Shepperton rehearsals 22.7.83
LA 14, 16.10.86
Paris Bercy 1.6.87
Wind & Wuthering rehearsal 76
Headley Grange rehearsal 74
Acton rehearsal 76
Old Croft writing 79
PSL rehearsal w/Bruford 76
Showco rehearsal 78
Shepperton rehearsal 78
Shepperton rehearsal 80
Hammersmith rehearsal for MK+ Gabriel 29.9.82
Rehearsal with Chester T 12.3.76
Memphis (?) 16.9.83
Norfolk (?) 10.12.87
Cleveland (?) 11.12.81
Please send replies to
if you know if any of the above shows are available on bootleg and what
the quality is. Please do not request specific shows, that is NOT
the purpose of this posting. Thanks!
Steve Hackett Live 2001 DVD Update - Good News/Bad News
First, the good news. The video masters for Steve Hackett's performance
from Buenos Aires on his 2001 South American tour have been obtained by
Hackett's Camino label and are in the process of being mixed for DVD in
5.1 sound. Now, the bad news. The South American TV studio that filmed
the event has destroyed the extra, unused footage which was planned for
optional multi-camera angles on the DVD. As a result, the DVD will be
limited to the already edited version from the actual broadcast. Still,
news that this DVD is officially in the works is great news for Hackett
fans! More news on this DVD will follow shortly.

3. Steve's next rock album is also in progress with some initial
recordings already done. Pace on this project is expected to pick up
once the tour dates are finished and his new studio is completed.
4. Steve's acoustic/covers album with Jim Diamond and other guests is
temporarily shelved. More news will follow on this when available.
5. There are still no plans to release Steve's Outwitting Hitler
soundtrack on Camino Records. The entire soundtrack consists of 15
minutes of new music, so for now, this project is also shelved.
Stay tuned for more news on all of Steve's projects!

Official Genesis Site Updates In The Works
The official Genesis Webmaster is working diligently to complete a new
Talk Forum for the site which he expects to be done by the weekend. Many
people have complained about all of the pop-up ads and slow-to-load
banners on the forum currently used (which is provided by Bravenet, a
third party not associated with Hit & Run Management or Genesis).
The GW assures that this will no longer be an issue with his newly
developed version. Once completed, he then plans to turn his attention
to a new chat room for the site. Bravo, GW!

tunes a la King Crimson along side of a few sweeping contemporary
instrumentals. Pre-order information will follow soon!

New Genesis Tribute Coming In February
Yet another Genesis tribute album is to be released on February 5th in
the U.S. Not much is known at this point about which artists have
contributed to this project; however, none of the major labels have said
that they are behind it (eg. Sony, WEA, UMG, etc.), so it is most likely
an independent release with less "mainstream" talent. If you
